A celebration of another year alive, and a reminder of those who are no longer beside us.

Created for his 30th birthday on October 10, 2026, THE EMPTY CHAIR is a deeply personal artwork by Mystiic Khalifa exploring loneliness, abandonment, lost friendships, and the emotional weight of growing older.

Birthdays are supposed to be filled with happiness, love, and celebration. But for the artist, they have often been reminders of loneliness, unmet expectations, and the fear of being forgotten.

The painting depicts an NPC character sitting alone at a birthday table, facing a cake marked with the number 30. Across from him sits an empty chair, symbolizing the people he once imagined would be there to celebrate with him.

A face shaped balloon floats beside the chair, representing the memories of friendships that have faded or ended. Although those people are no longer present, their memories continue to linger.

On the wall hangs a depiction of the artist's very first NPC painting, representing the beginning of his artistic journey at age 26 and the personal growth he has experienced over the past four years.

The chaotic layers of red, purple, and black contrast with the cheerful birthday decorations, reflecting the conflict between the happiness expected on birthdays and the emotions experienced internally.

At its heart, THE EMPTY CHAIR is about more than turning 30. It is about grieving relationships without closure, confronting the fear of being forgotten, and learning to let go of people while still cherishing the memories they left behind.

Sometimes the hardest part of growing older isn't the passing of time, but realizing who is no longer there to share it with you.

THE EMPTY CHAIR is a reminder that even in moments of loneliness, our experiences, memories, and emotions remain part of the people we are becoming.
